Sustainability and ESG Consulting
What is ESG?
In recent years, it has become increasingly important that companies pay attention to the incorporation of ESG criteria and its associated principles of sustainability into their business operations. Broadly speaking, the scope of ESG includes Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance principles which are intended to create better accountability among members of the business community towards the impacts that their business activities have on the natural environment and the wider communities that they operate within. Adherence to these criteria requires that businesses adopt appropriate corporate practices which pay due regard to each of the elements of ESG.
The adoption, for instance, of practices such as the monitoring of carbon emissions, water usage, waste production, recycling rates and the companies impact on biodiversity would be areas which satisfy the environmental criteria. Measuring accessibility and affordability of goods and services, workplace diversity, health and safety, and data security, would fall under the company’s social obligations. Creating robust organisational structures, well defined remuneration systems, greater corporate transparency, better business ethics, as well as increased stakeholder involvement, would form part of the corporate governance criterion.
Each of these criteria taken both independently and together form the basis of the principle of sustainability, which essentially means ensuring that corporate resources and activities are not excessive, always efficient, and never exercised at the cost of the environment or human health, safety, and integrity.
Why it’s Important?
When companies overlook their responsibilities to a wider net of stakeholders, they open themselves up to taking risks which could cause damage to their business, not to mention to the natural environment and the communities around them. Additionally, mounting awareness and pressure from consumers and public interest groups combined with drastically shifting sentiments within the investing public have created a snowballing trend over the past decade that has seen ESG focused businesses receiving much higher valuations in global trade markets.
Professionals are far more likely to to do business with a company that has a firm ESG corporate strategy in place and investor attention is becoming increasingly drawn towards ESG aligned business propositions. Drawing up a solid ESG strategy is therefore a huge imperative for businesses who wish to grow and thrive in today’s evolving commercial ecosystem, making it a risk element that requires detailed monitoring and dynamic responsiveness to ensure that shareholder value is both safeguarded and enhanced.

Our 9-stage program will guide your business towards a comprehensive assessment of its ESG related risks, strengths, and opportunities. The SESG program will ultimately equip your business with a Sustainability Action Plan that your company can leverage to navigate its ESG related challenges and achieve unique competitive advantages within the ESG market sector.
The 9 stage ESG services that we offer our clients will begin with a carbon footprint assessment, in which a carbon inventory check will be carried out on scope 1 and 2 as per the carbon inventory guide to determine the businesses carbon inventory level. This will be followed by a gap analysis that will involve a companywide diagnostic for determining gaps to achieving ESG objectives while identifying areas in need of improvement.
Next, a benchmarking survey is carried out in which industry peer performance is reviewed to gauge the client’s comparative standing. Here, industry best practices and adaptation potentials are considered in detail. A materiality assessment is then carried out to determine the target audience for common disclosure of information, and internal and external stakeholders are engaged to ascertain the financial materiality and impact materiality for the business.
This is then followed by the establishment of sustainability indicators for financial and sustainability reporting purposes, with a data capture and reporting framework developed as well. The next stage involves the sustainability strategy and reporting analysis in which ESG goals are established and corporate level ESG strategies are devised to enable sustainability reporting to take place.
Here, appropriate governance structures are also proposed to ensure effective implementation. A low carbon design is then developed by reviewing architectural and engineering designs that assess the carbon footprint accordingly, and low carbon design alterations are put forward at the city, project and building level.
A sustainability action plan is then developed in which time-phased implementation strategies are put forward to meet ESG targets. Progressive milestones and performance tracking mechanisms are determined and set out here.
Finally, we provide a follow up sustainability training programme for board members and senior management which includes coaching sessions for strategy execution and internal reporting.
