Description of Project

Background

To achieve their vision of creating better cities, the client commissioned various projects to address both the necessary physical changes and softer interventions that focus on strengthening a place’s identity.

One of their initiatives was to develop a City Index that focuses on Livability.

Challenges & Expectations

Establishing a city index is unlike a typical market study. It requires a robust framework to systematically measure and evaluate the city from various facets.

Data collection was another issue as well. The respondent groups must be comprehensive & balance in order to produce a more reflective & factual result.

Our Role on the Project

Scope of Services

Our scope was to develop a Livability Index for the client that provides an independent assessment on the living experiences of general public Malaysia. The phase 1 of this project was carried out at Penang, Malaysia

Solutions / Outcomes Delivered

Leveraging on our internal database & international benchmark, we have developed an evaluation framework for the Index which look at the indicators from 5 main areas of Livability, i.e. Live, Work, Play, the Environment & Governance.

The assessment was conducted through on-the-ground interviews with respondent who fits the demographic profile requirement to ensure a balance input from all categories.

For computation of the Livability Index, we adopted both quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis whereby a weightage was given to the qualitative indicators. Respondents were given options based on the Likert scale, to indicate their level of agreement to each question.

At the end of our study, our report was published by the client to public & media.
