Description of Project
Client
The Client – East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC) of Malaysia is a statutory body established under an Act of Parliament, the ECERDC Act 2008 (Act 688), to drive implementation projects and key programs identified in the ECER Masterplan.
Background
Kertih Biopolymer Park (KBP) is set to be Asia’s largest second generation bio-refinery complex with 140 hectare in size. Since its completion, KBP had been successfully attracted multi-billion of investment into the park. As part of KBP expansion plan, the client had commissioned a study to prepare a Business Strategy Implementation Plan (BSIP) to guide the expansion of the Kertih Biopolymer Park (KBP) Phase 3.
Challenges & Expectations
The focus of this BSIP is to develop an implementable, phased strategic approach to the development of the KBP Phase 3 expansion that focus on industrial biotechnology with potential for biochemical / feedstock production which could ‘drop-in’ to the petrochemical supply chain once the market & economic conditions ensure this is feasible.
Our Role on the Project
Scope of Services
Engaged as the Master Planner & Business Strategist, our primary objectives are developing biomass value chain and petrochemical value chain for KBP3. This focuses on three target industries and potential markets namely the Industrial biotechnology, Bio-agriculture & Biomedical.
Solutions / Outcomes Delivered
Working with industry veterans in the field of bio-polymers & feedstocks, we have conducted in-depth industry analysis on the industrial biotechnology value chain to be promoted at KBP and identified potential products of high demand.
We also look at the availability of biomass feedstock to supply for the KBP’s usage. Leveraging on its close proximity to various sources of feedstock, we have positioned KBP3 as a multi-feedstock park.
To better manage the park operation, we have developed a park management model & a recovery model for the park manager.
We also helped to identify and realized investment from global and regional industrial biotechnology players in KBP.
