Malik Tahir is the founder of Energy and Strategy Consulting Sdn Bhd (ESCSB) based in Kuala Lumpur. ESCSB is involved in providing consultancy services on oil and gas and other energy related strategy and transformation of corporations mainly in the oil and gas sector.
He spent 25 years in Shell and non-Shell refineries in operation, technology and economic evaluation of short term and longer terms decisions and investments. Malik has carried out numerous economic analysis of investment opportunities and projects in Malaysia and oversees particularly in the Oil and Gas sector. Malik had provided various types of consultancy services to small medium enterprises on behalf of the SME Corp of Malaysia.
He further spent 12 years in providing various types of consulting services to the oil and gas and other sectors in terms of improving their business performance, analyzing investment opportunities via various feasibilities study of process plants and refineries, technical improvements and fuel optimisation. The non-Oil and Gas sectors includes Small and Medium Enterprises in LED Lighting, Bio-Technology Businesses. Malik has considerable skill in Risk Assessment particularly on Safety and Environmental risks associated with process plants.
Malik has acquired a wide range of skills and knowledges from training courses and hand-on application particularly when he was in Shell. Malik was instrumental in the turnaround of Shell Lutong Refinery Sarawak in the mid-90s. However, after the crude oil and petroleum prices and demand collapse in 1998, Shell decided to close down the Lutong Refinery in 2003.
Malik was the key and main driving force for the establishment of the Kemaman Bitumen Company (KBC) 30,000 bbl per day oil refinery which was focused on bitumen production. Malik had also provided engineering design services to KBC during their expansion and performance improvement project. Malik had provided technical support, advices and guidance to the Sabah Oil and Gas Development Corporation during his 5 years as their Technical and Economic Advisors.
