Client

The Client is the Ministry of Local Government Development which is primarily responsible for urban well-being, local government and public services. 

Background

The Client intends to prepare a Comprehensive Plan for the Smart City of Pengerang with the aspiration of Tourism and Industrial aspect as the Main Core of Economic and Technological Growth

Challenges & Expectations

There exist several challenges for the city to successfully transform it into a “Smart City”.  The lack of smart governance plan to utilize the financial allocation in a optimal way. The lack of land availability for development, specific guideline for the local government and lastly the lack of broadband coverage. 

The ministry hopes to build the township into a smart city via the utilization of ICT. Furthermore, to transform the industrial and tourism sector of the city to become the main core in making the “Smart Pengerang” mission a success. Lastly, a creation of  specific guidelines to guide the development of smart cities in Pengerang in the future.

Our Role on the Project

Scope of Services

We were engaged to provide the following services:

• International Benchmarking 
• Formulation of Digital Infrastructure Strategy 
• Develop business component 
• Formulation of initiatives implementation mechanism
• Social economic impact assessment of the Implementation of the Smart City Agenda

Solutions/Outcomes Delivered

We assessed the technological level of the study area and the stakeholder (industrial players) sentiments and received the necessary feedbacks. 

We also identified the high potential industries and initiatives that has the highest economic potential in GDP for the social economic benefit of the area, the citizens and the workforce. 

From a thorough benchmarking of other countries’ smart city initiatives, we highlighted a list of programmes and projects for Pengerang Smart Industry to ensure social economic benefit is observed.
