5 Questions with 27 Advisory's Senior Advisor, Saji Raghavan
Our Senior Advisor, Saji Raghavan’s area of expertise is in Power Systems and Digital Engineering. He was appointed as the Country Director for Malaysia and Brunei in 2014, where he was responsible for overseeing all of Rolls-Royce’s key business sector activities. He then took up the role of Regional Director South East Asia in 2017. He has a B.Eng (Hon) Mechanical Engineering degree from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and an MBA from Ohio University, and has attended management courses at the prestigious INSEAD and Oxford University. Prior to joining Rolls-Royce, Saji held various senior management positions during his 22 years with global power generation, grid and rail solutions companies ABB and Alstom. He has held various local and regional positions.
He currently sits on the National Energy Consultative Panel, the Energy Council of Malaysia (ECOM) committee, Powergen Asia Advisory Board, MIGHT Board, British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (BMCC) Board as well as the subsidiary boards of Standards and Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM). He is also a keen golfer and badminton player.
Best known for...Led Alstom in Malaysia and Philippines as Country President, actively promoting high efficiency power plants technologies and after-sales services, including environmental control solutions for utilities, Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and industries.
Proudest achievement...The development of the Kuala Lumpur hub into a mature Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) and Services organization, with skills and talents deployable around the world, that then led to immense success in Malaysia in terms of achieving 30% market share of megawatts installed.
The last 5 years...Saw a change in company and business sectors, dabbling in aerospace, defence and power systems as Country Director for Rolls-Royce in Malaysia and Brunei. Exciting times when the company rolled out world's most efficient aero engines, pushing the boundary of technologies to achieve higher power and efficiencies, which by the way translate into lesser environmental impact. It was also the time the world started embracing digital technologies, with more innovation to come in near future. We also broke new ground in selecting Malaysia to produce key aero engine components.
